A NEW BROOM SWEEPS CLEAN

BUT AN OLD BROOM KNOWS ALL THE CORNERS

Home Club of District 9810 Immediate Past District Governor

Alma Reynolds

Incumbent Presidents Preliminary Remarks

“Its official now and changeover is done, thank you to Esther and Barry for organising the night, a lot of work and organisation is needed for these events and you did it well.
Thank you to everyone for coming on the night.
Timing was impeccable, allowing us to meet face to face, a luxury that unfortunately wasn’t available last year, making the night more important to celebrate Barry ‘s successful year, the emergence of the Rotaractor’s and of course transition to the new leadership.
With all that said, it feels like ground hog day as we move back into lockdown number 5 and go back to “Zoom” meetings.
Welcome to the new board, we still have a vacancy for a “membership director” which is an important role within the club so if you feel you would like to volunteer and put your hand up please call me.

Congratulations to all the Paul Harris Fellow awardee’s, they are well deserved.”

Also as discussed:

I awarded PHF’s to David Ellis, Liz Ollie and Barry H.

Fellow Rotarians
It has been my privilege to be president of the Rotary Club of Doncaster for the year 2020-21. A year where we had some challenges with a pandemic called Covid 19. When I started the year I did not expect to be in lockdown for 8 months. Meetings were conducted on  Zoom. We had to learn very quickly how to work with it. But we rose to the challenge and learned new phrases like; you are on mute; turn up your volume etc..
Our club was able to open opportunities for communities, both locally and internationally.
Members contributions to Foundation, Polio Plus, fundraising and service over the past 12 Months was extraordinarily generous.
Some of these projects included :
  • Schramms Working bees when permitted
  • Challenge to Lead
  • RAMS Rotarians Against Malaria led by Shelley Gurney
  • The LAARF Singers
  • The establishment of the Doncaster Hill Rotary Market along with Templestowe Rotary Club.
  • Football Tipping Competition with the Cluster
  • The Distribution of Christmas Hampers
  • Bunnings BBQs and Christmas Wrapping at Westfield
  • District Tree Planting Project
  • Support For Timor Leste
  • Interact Meeting at Doncaster College

We had a number of joint meetings with the Rotary Club of Doncaster U.K. which is among the highlights for me. Also lets not forget the joint meetings we have with the Rotary Club of Templestowe and Manningham Rotaract. I am looking forward to many more with them and other clubs in our cluster.

This was only some of the work done by the Club in addition to the contributions by our members to the Club itself and those who have undertaken District roles.

I would like to acknowledge the contributions of club members (and often their partners, family, and friends).
At this stage I would like to say a big thank you to my wife Glenda who has put up with me thru out the year with all the Zoom meetings, especially the Zoom Meetings, sometimes 3 a day. A big thank you dear.

The Club was recognized with a Rotary International Citation in 2019-20. It was one of six Clubs in the District to receive a Platinum recognition! The Club also received a Bronze Environmental Award.

I would like to thank Past District Governor Alma Reynolds for your leadership throughout year 2020-21. You have been both positive and encouraging. So many people helped me during the year, club members were just fantastic, nothing was to much trouble. I don’t think that I would have been able to do the job with out the help from others in the club. Brendon I am sure that you will get the same help as I got.

Finally, this year has had its challenges with Covid -19 lock downs restrictions etc..

I would like to thank all the Members of the Rotary Club of Doncaster for all that you have done. There have been some changes and we have built on IPP Pats idea of a Dynamic Club. One was we look after each other, do good in the world and give our very best.

Past District Governor Alma Reynolds asked that Clubs to become more Vibrant and Attractive. To be the best club that it can be. I think that we are a long way towards that goal already.
I wish to thank the Board Members for there contribution throughout the year and wish Brendon and his Board all the very best for the coming year ahead. Thank you

From Esther Murray - COVID 19 Update Current Lockdown
New changes have been introduced to slow the spread of COVID-19 by reducing the number of people leaving their homes and moving around Victoria.
This means that you cannot leave your home other than for one of the five following reasons:
Victorians may also leave home to visit their intimate partner, their single social bubble buddy, or in an emergency – including those at risk of family violence.
You must stay within 5km of your home for shopping and exercise. This limit does not apply to work, when giving or receiving care, getting a COVID-19 vaccination or visiting an intimate partner or your single social bubble buddy.
Face Masks:
  • must be worn indoors and outdoors whenever you leave your home.
  • do not need to be worn indoors or outdoors if you are working alone unless another person enters that indoor or outdoor space.
You can leave your home in an emergency or if there is family violence.
These actions will protect our loved ones, friends, colleagues, health care workers and the community.
We understand the difficulties for business and health services at present and can only imagine the hard work & stress for those staff who are Contact Tracing and COVID Testing.  QR code (quick response) sign in is so incredibly important - therefore it is essential that we always sign in either by QR code on our phone or where not possible that we “sign in” on the relevant page offered by the venue/business as we move around. Personally, if the business does not have either and are not wearing masks I would not enter the premises. Plus, they are in breach of the rules and can be fined huge sums.
So:
  • Always wash your hands before you leave, and when you return home.
  • Keep at least 1.5 metres between yourself and others.
  • Never, ever go out if you are unwell unless it is to get tested.
  • After you get tested, you must go straight home.
  • Remember that the most important thing you can do is get tested, even if you have the mildest of symptoms.
  • Get vaccinated.

Keep Safe everyone,

Esther Murray

Welfare
While we’re getting on with the business of helping others, let’s take a moment to remember our fellow Members, Partners and Friends of the Club, who may be doing it a little tough.
We’re also thinking of our long-term absent Members whom we don’t see often enough.
I’m sure all of us know an absent or ex Member who would love to have a call from any one of us as Members of the Rotary Club of Doncaster.
If you do know anyone who is unwell, or is going through challenging times, or even if you’re up against it yourself, contact our Welfare Officer, PP Frank Evans on 9337 8493, or email frank.evans1@bigpond.com.
