Eat the Elephant
“It’s probably true that everyone has a book in them, although it may not be a good one”
- Wilbur Smith
PP David Grieve of RCD wrote a book in 2019 called Eat the Elephant – solve your business problems in small bites – even when it seems impossible. With a thoughtful introduction by Australia’s most recent Rotary International President Ian Riseley, himself an accomplished account and business leader the book has very readable advice on leadership and business management.
David has given presentations to Rotary Clubs in Qld and Victoria on the steps in writing and publishing a book, as well as brief overview its contents and main messages. Its an interesting journey consisting of frustrations, challenges and then ultimate success in finally publishing. The presentation is both serious and humorous.
The book is for sale and all proceeds on the sale of the book go to End Polio Now.

Sunday morning, 10 April, our local historian Jim Poulter hosted a Walkabout at the Pound Bend Park at Warrandyte. Over 30 interested people turned up to hear Jim talk about the location’s significant Aboriginal history, being the site of the last Corroboree of the Kulin nations in 1852 just before the residents were driven out of their land to make way for gold mining activities. Jim always captivates an audience with his wealth of knowledge and Sunday was no exception with many questions being asked and many positive comments received from the attendees. See below for some photos from morning.

Rotarians unite to send medical aid to Ukraine
Rotary members in North America, Argentina, and Europe are collaborating with a U.S.-based association of Ukrainian health care workers to collect and ship more than 100 tons of critical medical supplies to Ukraine. The effort was built off of connections Marga Hewko, president of the Rotary Club of Chicago, had forged with the Ukrainian medical community in Chicago. Rotary clubs have pooled their resources to secure donations from equipment manufacturers and purchase supplies which are then flown over to Europe for distribution within Ukraine. Read how Rotary’s network has been providing support to Ukraine.

While we’re getting on with the business of helping others, let’s take a moment to remember our fellow Members, Partners and Friends of the Club, who may be doing it a little tough.
We’re also thinking of our long-term absent Members whom we don’t see often enough.
I’m sure all of us know an absent or ex Member who would love to have a call from any one of us as Members of the Rotary Club of Doncaster.
If you do know anyone who is unwell, or is going through challenging times, or even if you’re up against it yourself, contact our Welfare Officer, PP Frank Evans on 9337 8493, or email frank.evans1@bigpond.com.
